How to Prepare For Your Last Year of College - TutorNerds
How to Prepare For Your Last Year of College - TutorNerds Five ways to get ready for your last year of college Students are going back to college this week and are preparing to complete their post-secondary education and get ready for a career in their chosen field. The last year of college is a pivotal point in any young persons life. Thus its important to be ready for all of the decisions that need to be made within the next nine months. Whether students are making career connections, ensuring they graduate on time, or figuring out how to start paying back student loans, there are some things they should do to make their last year of college a success a private Los Angeles college tutor is the perfect way to have a successful senior year. 1. Graduate! Graduating seems like a given, but its one of the hardest things for students to do these days. Many students have not been able to find the classes they need for their major or have taken time off of school to earn money, so becoming a fifth-year senior is a must for many students. Its essential that students meet with an academic advisor at the beginning of the school year to make sure they have enough credits and the correct classes to graduate in June. 2. Meet with a financial advisor Students should also meet with a financial advisor during their senior year of college, so they will be prepared for any financial changes that occur upon graduation. Many student loans must be paid back once a student graduates, and theyâll need to start planning for a new living situation once they move off campus. These things can be incredibly overwhelming if a student has to deal with them all at once, so its better to prepare in advance (READ: 5 Signs You Need a Los Angeles College Math Tutor). 3. Start looking for work Its never too early to start looking for potential job opportunities. Its a lot easier to have a job waiting upon graduation rather than spend the summer looking for work. Many companies will hire college seniors with the contingency that they wont start the job until they officially graduate while others will let students start working part-time as an intern to prepare for a full-time career after graduation. Students can also take informational interviews or start investigating which companies spark their interest during the senior year. 4. Take advantage of networking opportunities Senior year is also an excellent time to start solidifying any networking opportunities that have come up in the last three years. Students can network with classmates as well as professors and teaching assistants to get a foot in the door in their chosen career field. All students will need recommendations and references to get hired at their first full-time job but may also be able to make long-term connections for the future. 5. Enjoy student life College seniors should also take a moment to sit back, relax and just enjoy being a student. Once they start working full-time their entire life will change and senior year is the last chance to live a studentâs life. Seniors should join in on a campus club or organization, volunteer within their local student community, attend social events on campus, or take an extracurricular course in something theyve always been interested in. Part of an overall balanced education is enjoying the recreational aspects of college life. Students are encouraged to go to a football game, attend movie night, and enjoy their school spirit before moving on to a career. Perseverance Helps This 9-Year-Old Figure Skater Make the Impossible Possible
Perseverance Helps This 9-Year-Old Figure Skater Make the Impossible Possible Perseverance Helps This 9-Year-Old Figure Skater Make the Impossible Possible Alvina, 9-years-old, Math Level K, Reading Level H A typical 1st grader is learning how to tell time, count coins, and count to 100. They most likely donât have homework every day, and when they do, it often involves large shapes, bright colors, and simple number exercises. This wasnât enough for Alvina. At just six years old, she noticed a classmate bringing unfamiliar and advanced work to school, that he would complete during their breaks. Alvina learned this was daily worksheet study for the Kumon Math Program, and wanted in. She begged her parents to enroll her, and promised she was ready for the new commitment of homework every day on material she had never seen before. Just three years later, at age nine, Alvina is studying quadratic equations â" advanced high school level math â" after she spends the regular school day in the 4th grade with her peers. âMy desire and motivation to go beyond my grade to learn more than what I was being taught at school convinced my parents to enroll me in Kumon,â said Alvina. âI have since learned where my weaknesses are and how to persevere through them, which has increased my self-confidence while demonstrating that practice really does make perfect.â Alvina is studying several years beyond her grade level through the Kumon Math Program, which has left her ample time to focus on her extracurricular passions. An avid figure skater, her dedication and extra time helped her achieve an award for most improved individual skater in her league. Off the ice, Alvina enjoys participating in church choir and drama club, practicing piano, scouting, and volunteering. She maintains a spot on the Spirit of Math National Mathematics Honor Roll, enjoys learning foreign languages, and has recently taken a liking to public speaking. Itâs clear that Alvina is always looking for a challenge and that doesnât stop with her career aspirations. She hopes to become a veterinarian because sheâd like to help animals who are suffering and unable to speak up like humans can. âKumon has helped me understand the importance of setting goals and working hard towards them, even if it takes many failures in the process,â said Alvina. âI now believe in myself no matter what and know that my hard work will lead to my future dreams coming true.â Alvina was one of 56 young innovators from across North America selected to attend Kumonâs 3rd Annual Student Conference. She traveled to Chicago, Illinois for a day of critical thinking, connecting, and learning with Kumon students just like her. What do you enjoy most about Kumon? Since Kumon allows me to learn new material without limiting me by my age or school grade, I enjoy overcoming the challenging problems in the worksheets by pushing myself a bit further to test my ability. How has Kumon helped you both in and out of the classroom? Kumon has helped me get through my schoolwork easily and efficiently! It saves me time not having to struggle with my homework so that I have more time to explore other new things and expand my knowledge. Outside of the classroom, I am learning piano by myself without taking any piano class. I think this is very similar to the Kumon Method because Kumon taught me the benefit of self-learning. I seek out the information on how to play songs by myself. For instance, I learned how to read the notes on internet sites and some apps to guide me on how to play the tunes. Without my Kumon experience, I probably would not have attempted to self-learn how to play piano. What achievements are you most proud of? I strive to make the impossible possible! Last year, I received the âMost Improved Individualâ at the Richmond Hill Figure Skating Club. I always want to take a step up the ladder to improve my skills, techniques, and knowledge not only in skating, but in everything I learn. I am not only recognized by them, but also, I am my own âmost improvedâ because of the effort I always contribute. I am also proud of receiving the âVirtue of The Month Perseveranceâ Certificate granted by my school to recognize my perseverance in the face of difficulties. What advice would you give to kids just starting Kumon? I would tell them not to give up, to try their best, and to take positive actions to patiently learn thoroughly. There is no fast track to success accuracy and efficiency will play a part along the way. What was your experience like at the Student Conference, and what was your favorite part? My experience at the Student Conference was unforgettable; meeting and sharing learning ideas with other top students from not only different cities, but also countries, really opened my eyes. My favorite part was when I went up to the stage and presented my submitted answer to everyone in the conference room. Who is your biggest inspiration and why? My biggest inspiration is meeting with Abby Chen at the Kumon Student Conference. I am impressed that sheâs not only good at Kumon and academics, but that she also worked so hard to achieve her goal to be a professional ballet dancer. She managed everything (time, spirit, and energy) so well and made her dream a reality. Discover even more student success stories. What is Algebra Tutoring In Pearland?
What is Algebra Tutoring In Pearland? What a way to become an algebra tutor in the city of Houston, Texas. If you think about it, this is exactly the kind of position that Texas could really use as they try to support math and science education. So what is Texas planning to do with the time and money it is going to spend on doing things like this? They plan to do this by starting a new science and math department within the University of Texas. You may be surprised to know that this is a great idea, but I suppose it would be better if someone did it.I am not really sure why they are thinking about starting this program, as it is something that should be done elsewhere. However, there are some possible benefits from this for Texas, as well as the rest of the country. For one thing, it would be a good thing to see, if Texas will find a new way to keep up with the times and stay competitive in the world. A Texas Algebra Tutor in Pearland would be an asset to the future of the state, becaus e if students can take some lessons from these folks, they will eventually choose to live there instead of staying in Texas. It might also mean that Texas could be getting a lot more students who move out to do their post-secondary studies. It is no secret that Texas is known for being one of the states with the worst climate in the country. This is where their state budget comes from, so getting an algebra tutoring position would only help to remedy that problem, and to keep up with the times. As long as someone wants to keep going this way, someone is going to have to pay for it.But I am not really sure that this is the best use of the state's resources. Texas does not seem to be having any real problems keeping its demographics up to date, so there are obviously still plenty of people that want to do their post-secondary studies in Texas. The state may not need to look into this new program to find out the truth. However, there are several things that Texas can do to help keep up w ith the times, and one of those things is to keep up with this new program in Austin. Many other states are having a hard time competing with Texas in terms of education, and this is something that cannot be helped. But Texas might have to consider this new program to help bring them up to speed with the world.

5 Tips Singers Need to Know Before Recording a Song
5 Tips Singers Need to Know Before Recording a Song Suzy S. Is recording a song one of your goals as a singer? Its an amazing feeling to pour your heart out and have a finished product to be proud of! Here, Brooklyn, NY teacher Liz T. shares some important tips to remember before you head into the studio Before going into a studio to record vocals for a song, itâs important that you prepare yourself to make the best use of your time! Recording a song in a studio can be quite expensive, because most are rented by the hour so here are some tips for singers on how to make the most of your upcoming recording session! 1) Research recording studios First, do a little research on the recording studios in your area, or engineers you are going to be working with before you go into the studio. Make sure you have talked about all fees and how much time you will have, and if that includes setup and breakdown. How will you get your recording after? What kind of equipment do they have? Donât be afraid to ask questions! You donât want to show up on the big day and be surprised they donât have the microphone you had hoped for! Also, see if you can listen to some of the work they have produced beforehand, to get an idea of the recording quality. 2) Make a plan Go into the studio with a specific goal in mind! For example: âToday Iâm going to do just vocals for one song, or vocals and guitar on the chorus.â Keep your plan as simple as possible, and make sure your goal is clear and concise. Write it out, and share it with your engineer or producer before going in, so everyone is on the same page! It also helps to send them a rough version of the song before, with a lyrics/lead sheet. 3) Have your track ready If you are recording vocals over a pre-existing track, itâs a wise idea to send the mp3 to your engineer beforehand, to make sure it will work in the studio. If you are going to be recording the track from scratch, take your time and record one instrument at a time. If you do not have your full band track ready to record over, you can still record your song with a solo piano or guitar track. 4) Always allow for more time Donât go into the studio rushed or pressured to record in a short amount of time. Have some extra time available, so that if you do go over a little bit you donât have to worry. Usually two hours per song and per instrument is sufficient to get in multiple takes. Everything always takes longer in recording than we think, due to circumstances beyond your control (engineers setting up, testing levels, finding the right microphone, etc.). So book yourself extra time, and if you end up having free time at the end, use it for another song! 5) Work with your vocal coach Make sure you prepare with your vocal coach beforehand, or even see if he or she can come into the studio with you as youre recording your song! You want to be at your vocal best on the day of the session, and practicing the music with your teacher will put you ahead of the game (and impress the producers/engineers)! Recording a song requires a bit of different training than performing live on stage, and there are specific techniques that your vocal coach can teach you. If you follow these tips, I ensure you will be very pleased with the outcome of your recording. As a singer, always remember to bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as you will be on your feet for a while. Itâs also best to warm up before you go into the studio, so you are ready to go. Finally, remember to get plenty of rest the night before, and avoid any alcohol, which dries out your voice. Enjoy your vocal recording session! Liz T. teaches singing, acting, and music lessons in Brooklyn, NY, as well as online. She is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music with a B.M in Vocal performance and currently performs/teaches all styles of music including Musical Theater, Classical, Jazz, Rock, Pop, RB, and Country. Dont Believe Everything You Read about Introverts - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / Donât Believe Everything You Read about Introverts - Introvert Whisperer Donât Believe Everything You Read about Introverts This morning I posted a rant on Facebook in defense of the Introvert Person (ality). What had set me off was an article someone had submitted for publication right here on the Introvert Whisperer blog. The article profiled Introverts wrong, negatively and with bias. Itâs not the first time Iâve seen or heard inaccuracies because I hear it conveyed in the news and other places- usually wrong. Since I could have the article edited before publishing, I asked for the corrections but it also fired me up to do what I could to set the records straight. In that vein, I hope this is information that you will find useful to you personally. Feel free to pass it along. Of all the personality types that have ever been defined, Iâm dismayed that the Introvert personality gets so much negative baggage coupled with it. Itâs the only personality type that is used when a shooter goes crazy and kills others in a massacre to analyze what went wrong with the person doing the ugly deed. Certainly, when law enforcement apprehends a serial killer, they use the term âIntrovertâ to describe the personâs behavior. Our media often refers to a grouping of characteristics like: introvert, shy and anti-social as if they are all ways of describing the same thing. Little wonder why the collective of people think all of this is true. Weâve been fed bad information enough that we think itâs true. In fact, just today I read something that referred to the personality as flawed. Flawed? Weâre about as flawed as someone with brown eyes or is left-handed. Here is what you need to know: Introvert is a personality type. Itâs inherent to you. Itâs also neutral which means itâs not good and itâs not bad. It simply is. Itâs not something for you to âget overâ like a cold or even a mental health issue. Also, itâs not everything that goes into the complex mix of what drives behavior in people. Being shy or anti-social is not personality and is not Introvert. Those issues are part of anxiety disorder. They can be present in an introvert or an extrovert. Yes, you can be shy AND an extrovert. You donât change personality type, you change behaviors. As we go through life, we figure out behaviors that will serve us in some way. Those behaviors may or may not be âintrovert-likeâ or âextrovert-likeâ. Those behaviors may make you think your personality has changed, when in fact, it is the same. I.e.: One thing doesnât equal the other when it comes to personality. (I know it confused me too) We do live in an extroverted culture. That means the yardstick of goodness and success is measured by tendencies extroverts display. That also means introverts are at a cultural disadvantage. Oh well. Thatâs how life works â" it isnât always fair. A well-informed mind is a powerful thing and hopefully, on this topic, you are. While there are many more facts I could share about Introverts, these are the ones that tend to be incorrect out there in the mainstream media. Donât believe everything you hear. What is it Like to Attend Covenant University
What is it Like to Attend Covenant University Oge earned her bachelor's degree in French from Covenant University in Nigeria. She specializes in Greek tutoring, French tutoring, and a number of other subjects. Below, she shares her experience at Covenant University. Describe the campus setting and transportation options. Oge: The universitys campus is about an hour and a half from the metropolitan Lagos area, and is very safe. The transportation system within campus is such that students dont require a car; buses are usually available every 20 to30 minutes. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Oge:The professors are usually available before and after class for consultation, as well as through appointment. Teaching assistants are usually available to talk with students after class. How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Oge:The dorm life was exciting. We were paired with our coursemates, so that meant that we got the opportunity to know our classmates more beyond classroom interaction. The dorms are not co-educational; being a Christian university, the male dorms and the female dorms were far from one another. Dining options were restricted to the student cafeteria and the snack shops. Students were not permitted to cook in the dorms. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? Oge:The majors that are best supported in my university are engineering majorselectrical, mechanical, information and communication technology (ICT), and management information systems (MIS). I majored in French, and minored in German for two years because I have a passion for languages. I think my university did a great job supporting my course of study, from the study abroad opportunity we were given to the modern language lab we had. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Oge:It was difficult for me to meet people and make friends as a freshman, because I was extremely shy. We didnt have Greek life, but we had chapel service groups where students could join and interact, regardless of their majors or classifications. How helpful are the Career Centerand other student support services? Oge:The Career Center was integrated into the student affairs department. They organized career fairs with several reputable companies (Unilever, Procter Gamble, McKinsey and Co). How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Oge:The library is well equipped with materials ranging from print to digital. The busyness of the campus library ranges depending on the time of year and proximity to tests and finals. Describe the surrounding town. Oge:The surrounding town is industrial, with small and medium sized businesses. Fun places in the town are local restaurants, movie theatres, and shopping malls. Most weekends, students go to the downtown area to eat and spend time with their friends. How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Oge:The total student population ranges between 6,000 and 9,000. Typically, the class size in my program of study was relatively small, with a student to teacher ratio of about 1:20. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Oge:A memorable class I had was with my favorite professor, Emmanuel Kwofie. He was teaching us French linguistics and was moving from row to row, ensuring that all of us pronounced each word the right way. When it got to my turn, I pronounced the word slightly wrong, and he snapped in a very funny way. He repeated the right pronunciation up to ten times, until he was satisfied with my pronunciation. It was a very funny experience! Check out Oge's tutoring profile. The views expressed in this article do not necessarily represent the views of Varsity Tutors.
